The vicissitude of politics
Politics by its very nature is capricious. It turns and twists, ebbs and flows according to the whims and vagaries of the moment. Why should we be surprised when one candidate or the other changes his or her mind? Situations change, needs change, and peoples perceptions change constantly. Politicians are continually sticking their fingers in the air to check the winds of change. This time they stuck their fingers in our eyes and laughed all the while. No one wants to take responsibility for what has happened. We know full well that the parties will be tendential, after all that is the character of ideology. However for us to get over this we need someone with some backbone, someone who is not an invertebrate to grab this situation and make some tough decisions. We need a candidate that is willing to be tangential, a maverick to take us out of the darkness. What we don’t need is someone whose background is fraught with coadjuvancies of a dubious nature, dubious nature hell, Obama’s connections and associations are out and out just wrong. I am insulted as an American that someone of such ilk can even be considered for the highest office in the land and the leader of the free world. It is disgusting to see so many be taken in by his slick demeanor and manipulative packaging. On the other front, where for decades Democratic controlled government has systematically set about tearing down our capitalistic society and slowly are replacing it with socialism, we have the final assault, a contrived crisis turned into a Christmas present for a multitude of malefactors. We are just hearing that the executives of AIG are at the most exclusive and expensive resort in the country celebrating their good fortune. Are any of you celebrating this calamity? I think not. I mean there aren’t even any apologies given or responsibilities taken by anyone at all. What have we come to? I, and the American taxpayer should be implacable in calling for heads to roll. Wall Street and the high rollers of these institutions should be ashamed of themselves, but most of all our elected solons should be not only ashamed, but should along with the miscreants of these companies be held accountable to the point of prosecutory action. The action may only be not to allow golden parachutes, or in the case of our so-called politicians, to remove them from their positions, either through impeachment or criminal action, there by rendering them unfit to serve, serve, ha!, what a joke that has become. I realize that they may not have actually committed any act of breaking the law, however does no one ever adhere to the laws of morality any longer? What about good ol ethics? I suppose that is down the tubes also. I don’t know, I’m becoming disillusioned with this whole process, well I guess it’s not so much the process as what the system has turned it into. They have accomplished near nihilism, perhaps when we have reached the final depths we will have another tea party and clean house so we can get back to being the affluent, moral, ethical society we are meant to be. The only problem with that is we have to weather the storm of indifference until real reform can be accomplished. There in lies the rub.
